January 10, 2023 - Changsha New Year Concert, Yuelu Academy, symphonic concert was held in Changsha Concert Hall. The concert hall had its first performance in 2015, and since its opening, the Changsha Concert Hall hosts no less than 200 performances per year. The unique pattern on the external wall of Changsha Concert Hall is taken from a famous song Mist and Cloud over Xiao-xiang, composed by Guo Xin, a guqin performer, composer and educator in the Southern Song Dynasty, which is written in Jianzi pu, a traditional Chinese notation form, interspersed with fractured and transformed Western music notation, which is a unique Chinese guqin notation, and its application to the architectural design fully expresses the cultural connotation of the concert hall.

The concert hall has four floors with a symphony hall, multi-functional concert hall, chamber music hall, rehearsal hall, as well as make-up rooms, training center, recording studio, piano room, coffee bar and other facilities, with a total construction area of 28,161 square meters.

The symphony hall has more than 1,400 seats with a total area of about 1,790 square meters. The building seats are scattered around the stage in a valley trapezoid shape, which can meet the performance of large multi-production orchestras. The German company Kleiss will produce a custom-made organ worth nearly 20 million yuan for the symphony hall. The concert, performed by the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the Changsha Symphony Orchestra, is one of the longest and most ambitious works ever written for a domestic symphony. The orchestra's four-pipe establishment, plus the chorus, has more than 250 people on stage.

The composition of Yuelu Academy is based on the original literary script, making it different from other symphony. It also added a strong local characteristics of Hunan accent. The live music and big video screen worked together, creating a full sense of the symphonic for audience.

To present a perfect performance, they choose L-Acoustics Syva for the high-profile event. Totally 8 groups of Syva were deployed in the hall, 4 groups were placed in the first floor, and two groups are placed in each of the second and third floor areas. 115XT HiQ was mounted on stage using as monitoring

Quantum has upgraded its engine, and it contains a variety of compressors, suitable for a variety of types of music and places. For symphony, optical compression starts slower and releases slower, this is quite ideal for such a performance. It helps reducing the compression and bringing a smoother sound.

After this premiere, Yuelu Academy will be reserved as a regular program for the Changsha Symphony Orchestra, and will also tour internationally as a representative program of Chinese culture for the China Philharmonic Orchestra.
